A global analysis of potential self-sufficiency and diversity displays diverse supply risks

International trade plays a fundamental role in today's globalized food system, however, trade-related disruptions to national supply have become increasingly prevalent. Although self-sufficiency and the resilience of domestic production are both discussed, they rarely investigated tandem. This hinders our understanding diversity risks supply. In this article we investigate contribution these risks, through compilation comprehensive dataset multi-indicator assessment diversity. Our results show that most world (127 countries territories, 87% global population) achieves high levels potential (≥6 nutrients fulfilled), however only 33% population (41 countries) fully self-sufficient.
